The human body is remarkable and complex. A comprehensive study of the principles of Anatomy and Physiology is a core requirement for yoga teachers. Whether you are in training to become a new yoga teacher, or have been teaching for years, A&P is one of the areas we can all use a deeper understanding of.

In this series of three, 6-hours session, we will explore the principles of A & P to gain a greater understanding of how yoga asana can support the body to be in its greatest health. As the body goes, so goes the mind and spirit.

These sessions meet 200-hour requirements for yoga teacher training, and Continuing Education requirements.

Cost: $85 for each 6-hour session, or $200 for all three.  Please contact us at (760) 822-1348 to purchase single session.

Session One: Saturday, November 1, 2014, 11 am – 5 pm

The Spine: The Altar of our Temple

The spine is the central axis around which asana is practiced.  In this class we will focus on the anatomy of the spine and intervertebral discs as well as all the movements of the spine. We will also cover an introduction to anatomical terms and movements as well as the anatomy and physiology of the breath.  Suggested Reading: Anatomy of Movement – Chapters 1 and 2

Session Two: Saturday, December 20, 2014, 11 am – 5 pm

From the Floor to the Core

The feet serve as our foundation, in life as well as in asana.  This class will cover the anatomy of the lower body including the hips and pelvic girdle.  The anatomy of joints will be covered as well as a discussion of the fascia, proprioception, the nervous system and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF).  Suggested Reading: Anatomy of Movement – Chapters 6 and 7

Session Three: Saturday, February 28, 2015, 11 am – 5 pm

From the Hips to the Head

The anatomy of the arms will be covered, with particular attention to the shoulder joint and rotator cuff anatomy. Free form movements linked to breath versus weight bearing movements will be discussed as well as knowing when to employ what movements for your students. Visceral anatomy will be covered, including peristalsis and why Yoga is so good for digestion!  Suggested Reading: Anatomy of Movement – Chapters 3, 4 and 5

Yamas & Niyamas Workshop

Sun, Nov 2, 2014 – 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm Adriane

About the Workshop

Part of the Eight- fold path as outlined by Pantanjali thousands of years ago. The Yamas and the Niyamas can be crucial in looking deeper at the self and how we interact with the world around us. Move beyond the esoteric meanings and begin to learn how to apply these key guidelines to modern day life.

In this 4 hour workshop we will break down different definitions and key points to each Yama and Niyama, learn some yoga poses to invoke or inspire the courage to bring these concepts to your life and possibly have some eye opening conversations with peers from your community.

Please bring a journal, and writing utensil, comfy clothes and an open mind.
